How the Pandemic shifted Philippine Businesses Online

Pandemic impact on Philippine Business

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically changed the way we live our lives, and one of the most significant changes has been the way we do business. With lockdowns and social distancing measures in place, many Philippine businesses have had to adapt to survive, and one of the most crucial adaptations has been the shift to online.

The pandemic has accelerated the shift to online shopping and e-commerce, with many businesses realizing that having an online presence is no longer an option but a necessity. In this article, we will look at how Philippine businesses shifted online during the pandemic, why businesses should start shifting online, the steps involved, and how Google and Social Media are spearheading this online shift.

The Shift to Online During the Pandemic

The pandemic has significantly impacted the Philippine economy, with businesses forced to close due to lockdowns and social distancing measures. Many businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), were hit hard and struggled to survive. However, the pandemic has also presented opportunities for businesses to pivot and adapt to the new normal.

One of the most significant changes has been the shift to online. Philippine businesses have been forced to adapt to new ways of reaching customers, and online sales have seen a significant increase. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reported that online sales in the Philippines surged by 57% in 2020, compared to the previous year.

The pandemic has highlighted the importance of having an online presence. Customers are more cautious about leaving their homes and prefer to shop online for safety reasons. Businesses that have not yet shifted online risk falling behind and losing out to competitors that have an online presence.

Why Businesses Should Start Shifting Online

The pandemic has shown that having an online presence is no longer an option but a necessity. Online shopping and e-commerce have become the norm and businesses that have not yet shifted online risk being left behind. Here are some reasons why businesses should start shifting online:

  1. Reach a wider audience – By having an online presence, businesses can reach customers beyond their geographical location. This allows businesses to tap into new markets and increase their customer base.
  2. Increase sales – Online shopping has seen a significant increase in the Philippines during the pandemic. Businesses that have shifted online have seen a surge in sales, and this trend is expected to continue even after the pandemic.
  3. Reduce costs – Having an online presence can significantly reduce costs for businesses. This includes rent, utilities, and other overhead expenses associated with having a physical store.
  4. Build brand awareness – Having an online presence allows businesses to build their brand and increase brand awareness. By utilizing social media and other online marketing tools, businesses can reach a wider audience and build a loyal customer base.

Steps to Shifting Online

Shifting online can seem overwhelming for businesses that are used to traditional brick-and-mortar stores. However, with the right tools and guidance, businesses can easily shift online. Here are some steps to shifting online:

  1. Determine your online goals: Determine what you want to achieve by going online, such as increasing your customer base, boosting sales, or improving customer engagement.
  2. Create a website: Create a website that reflects your brand identity and provides customers with the information they need to engage with your business.
  3. Set up online payment options: Enable your customers to pay for your products or services online using secure payment options.
  4. Develop a social media strategy: Create social media profiles on platforms that your target audience uses and develop a content strategy that engages your followers and promotes your brand.
  5. Optimize your website for search engines: Use search engine optimization (SEO) techniques to improve your website’s visibility and ranking on search engines like Google.
  6. Use online advertising: Use paid advertising platforms like Google Ads or Facebook Ads to promote your products or services online.
  7. Monitor and analyze results: Monitor your website traffic, social media engagement, and sales to evaluate the effectiveness of your online strategy and make necessary changes.

Google and social media can play a crucial role in the process of shifting your business online. For example, Google can help drive traffic to your website through organic search results and paid advertising. Social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram can help you reach a wider audience and engage with customers through targeted advertising and engaging content.

SEO is also important in the transition to online business as it can help improve your website’s visibility and ranking on search engines. By optimizing your website’s content and structure, you can improve your chances of appearing at the top of search engine results pages for relevant keywords and phrases.

Overall, shifting a business online in the Philippines requires careful planning and execution, but with the help of digital tools like Google, social media, and SEO, it is possible to reach a wider audience, increase sales, and improve customer engagement.

As others have said both are valid and will do the trick. I’m not 100% convinced that they are identical though. If you have some style cascading going on then they could in theory produce different results since they are effectively override.
